AIGA Student Group Event Recap: Autry Museum Tour

Check out these images from your AIGA student group’s most recent event, a tour of the Autry Museum:

Faculty Adviser Shirin Raban writes:

I’d like to thank Patrick Frederickson on behalf of UCLA Extension AIGA Student Group for his thorough and very interesting behind the scenes tour to the Autry National Center on Friday July 20. We visited the running exhibits on “Jews in the Los Angeles Mosaic,” “Katsina in Hopi Life,”  “Art of the West,” and the upcoming exhibit, “Western Frontiers.”

We learned about the process of concept development and production of an exhibit including proposing ideas, researching cultures, working in a sustainable manner, vendor relationships and many other aspects all highlighting the importance of teamwork in a museum environment.

The tour included case studies of on why and how certain ideas had been developed in each exhibit. We got to hear the other story…

The highlight of the tour was being invited to the design studios downstairs, to go through the storyboards and timelines, and to experience first hand what is involved and expected from an exhibit designer. As high tech some of the final presentations were, they all originated as little sticky notes on the wall with scribbles written all over them, communicating concepts and aspirations.
